T3 Spinal Cord Injury / Longwood, Florida
A career horsewoman, Melissa was a professional rider, trainer, instructor and coach for over 20 years. She was a well-regarded hunter/jumper, active in competitions throughout the state of Florida. Additionally, she served as a board member on the Greater Orlando Hunter Jumper Association. When she could get away from the main duties of managing a large nationally renowned show barn, she enjoyed judging horse shows and putting on clinics.
On July 1, 2015, Melissa was thrown from a horse and landed on her head and burst her T3/T4 vertebrae and subluxated her spinal cord. The accident left her paralyzed from the chest down. She was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center where her spine was fused from T2 through T7.
Melissa is strong, and full of faith. Every day she counselor blessings and is determined to do whatever it takes to give it her best in spite of her circumstances.
