Spinal Cord Injury / Cleveland, Ohio
While trying to break up a disagreement between two individuals, Randy was shot in the head at close range. At the hospital, a portion of his brain was removed due to spinal cord damage. He ended up in a coma for almost a year. Doctors believed he would live with severe brain damage and never walk again.
After nearly a year of rehabilitation, he learned to walk and talk again, but suffered muscle weakness and lack of coordination. Three years later, a massive stroke paralyzed him once more. Once again, Randy learned to walk, this time with the use of leg braces. However, through continued rehabilitation and therapy, he was able to shed the leg braces and regain some strength.
Getting Back Up is proud to support Randy with a scholarship to continue receiving the therapy he needs at Buckeye Wellness Center in Valley View, Ohio.
